International Gunner Watch - Alex Song

Their faces go from excited to shocked to... roaring? Pic via Yahoo Sports.

Japan 1: Honda 39
Cameroon 0

Alex Song did not feature off the bench today as Cameroon fell to Japan 1-0, in what might just be the first surprise victory of this 2010 World Cup.

It took almost 40 minutes for Japan to register a shot on goal, but that shot went in off the foot of CSKA Moscow's Keisuke Honda, completely against the run of play. It was the only highlight of a slow moving first half. Cameroon had a number of chances at the death to salvage a point from the match. In the 86th, Stephane Mbia fired a rocket of a shot from a little under 30 yards out that was destined to be the equalizer, until it twisted to the left and pinged hard off the joint of the crossbar and post. Then a huge diving save from Eiji Kawashima in the 93rd kept the clean shot, though Cameroon were whistled for a foul on the play anyway.

A disappointing loss for Cameroon, who appeared to lack cohesion as a team for much of the match and will now find themselves struggling to advance from the group unless they upset the Dutch.
