In his return to Arsenal, albeit on the reserve squad, Sol Campbell, the 35-year-old defender played 45 minutes as Arsenal built a 2-0 halftime lead. West Ham equalized on two second half penalties, but it was a Jay Emmanuel-Thomas hat trick which buoyed Emmanuel Frimpong's 83rd minute goal to become the winner, in a 4-2 victory at Upton Park in East London.
Emmanuel-Thomas had both Gunner strikes in the first half, both a minute apart (27', 28') and added his third in injury time (90') to secure three points, moving Arsenal to within two points of Aston Villa at the top of the table in the Premier League Reserve South.
